\u201cThe name of the Lord is a strong tower; <\/em>The righteous run to it and are safe.<\/em>\u201d<\/p>\n

The name of the Lord<\/h3>\n

I think of two aspects to this:
(1) The \u201cname\u201d signifies the very person of the Lord, whose presence with us is like the mighty army of chariots of fire in 2 Kings 6:17, \u201cthe mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire all around Elisha<\/em>\u201d;
(2) Words have power in themselves, they create paths of thought and action; e.g. if the word \u201csin\u201d is no longer allowed because it may offend, then we have lost our freedom to become aware of our sin and brought to repentance. It\u2019s not surprising that Christianity is under attack by attacking our language, with concepts like good\/evil, right\/wrong, male\/female being classed as outdated.
So, the word for God, or the name of God, leads us to God.<\/p>\n

Strong tower<\/h3>\n

I think a fortress had outer walls, and then inner walls surrounding the most secure part known as the \u201cKeep\u201d, and the main feature of the Keep was the central tower. It was the most secure part of the fortress where people could \u201crun to it and are safe\u201d if the outer walls were breached.
So, the Lord is the most secure place in all the world for us. All else is subject to change and decay, but He alone is faithful and unchanging, He keeps His promises from of old.
And the crucial promise was to defeat the power of sin and death over us, which was achieved by Jesus through his sacrifice on the cross, which we celebrate at Easter. Satan may still be at large, but the victory has been won through Jesus.<\/p>\n
