Amen.”

A Benediction

These verses follow Jude’s concern and warning about the tendency for some people within the church community to fall away from the gospel, to presume upon God’s grace as a licence to follow their own fallen nature and tempt others to do the same. This leads to all sorts of depravity, like Sodom and Gomorrah.
After having addressed these issues, Jude offers the solution to these concerns in the benediction of these two verses.

Now unto him – Jude brings all this to God, the problem is more than we can handle and we need to give it over to him;

that is able to keep you from falling – by his death on the cross, and as his spirit lives within us, Jesus has freed us from the power of sin and Satan; in His strength we are secure.
This is wonderful to reflect upon. It means that we are not doomed to follow our fallen human nature and go along with social depravity, we really do have the strength to resist all temptations – through God’s almighty strength for us in Jesus;

and to present you faultless before the presence of his glory – by his substitutionary death on the cross, Jesus has given us his righteousness; through him we are judged as faultless before God, even before his glorious throne of judgment.
This too is wonderfully reassuring. We may see resisting temptations as a struggle, but we can be boldly confident in that struggle, not defeatist, as the victory has been won for us;

with exceeding joy – this is the key to understanding the nature of Jesus’ love for us – it’s not with a sombre, stern, and legalistic approach that he gives us his judgment, it is with pure delight in securing our salvation – a happy gift indeed;

To the only wise God our Saviour – This is the beginning of our response to what Jesus has done for us. Only in Jesus do we know the nature of the one true God, he alone has saved us, and apart from him we are lost. His wisdom in this is beyond our imagination, only he is truly wise.

be glory and majesty – to recognise with gratitude who Jesus is; as God, his nature is at an infinitely great level and beyond our understanding;

dominion and power – to recognise that Jesus alone has the overriding power to rule our world.
But most importantly, we need to allow him to rule our hearts, if we are to know the joy of his gift of salvation.

both now and ever – what we receive by accepting his gift transforms our life now, but unlike our worldly pleasures, it has everlasting consequences; it is secure and never fades with time, and it changes things forever, so also our gratitude and praise will never fade.

Amen – we all join in agreeing, ‘Indeed!’, or ‘So let it be!’

Praise Jesus who keeps us in his loving care.
[/et_pb_text][/et_pb_column][/et_pb_row][/et_pb_section]

“24 Now unto him that is able to keep you from falling, and to present you faultless before the presence of his glory with exceeding joy,25 To the only wise God our Saviour, be glory and majesty, dominion and power, both now and ever.
