Place of the Most High

Our secular world claims to put its trust in what is visible and tangible, in what can be verified by repeated observation of testing under controlled conditions. But this realm of our experience only covers a tiny fraction of human life and behaviour. Why do people love, hate, make beautiful music and objects, or engage in destructive behaviour and choose violence and war? And even in the physical realm, scientists estimate that 95% of the universe consists of dark matter about which nothing can ever be known.

In the physical sciences, inference and conjecture are needed to explain what we see. The development of theories of electromagnetism, which drive our mobile phones and most everything else of our modern age, required a willingness to infer from what is seen to what is unseen. And we still don’t fully understand the nature of light, which shows both wave and particle properties.

It’s similar with the ultimate questions of life, of why we are here and what is our purpose, and why anything exists at all?
That is an area where human conjecture is unable to discover the answers, but we are blessed to have been given the answers by the almighty creator of all that exists

God cannot be contained by any space or physical location (Omnipresent)

• 1 Kings 8:27: “Behold, heaven and the heaven of heavens cannot contain You”
• Jeremiah 23:24: ‘“Do I not fill heaven and earth?” says the Lord.’

God is Spirit, beyond matter, and He is the creator of matter.

• John 4:24: “God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.”
• Colossians 1:16-17: “For by Him all things were created that are in heaven and that are on earth, visible and invisible …. All things were created through Him and for Him. And He is before all things, and in Him all things consist.”

God exists beyond time, outside of our sequential time (Eternal)

• Psalm 90:2: “Before the mountains were brought forth, Or ever You had formed the earth and the world, Even from everlasting to everlasting, You are God.”
• Revelation 1:8: ” I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End,” says the Lord, “who is and who was and who is to come, the Almighty'”

When we enter into a relationship with our almighty God, we receive a sense of his nature, and that mere glimpse is liberating for us who are bound by physical matter, space, and time. It is in God’s realm that we find our true home, through the miracle of Jesus.

Secret

God’s realm is secret only in that it is hidden from those who refuse to see or acknowledge God, who wilfully suppress the truth, and become spiritually blind:

• Romans 1:18-20, “For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who suppress the truth in unrighteousness, because what may be known of God is manifest in them, for God has shown it to them. For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead, so that they are without excuse”

God longs for us to see and acknowledge Him, He longs to restore us:

• Matthew 13:15, “For the hearts of this people have grown dull. Their ears are hard of hearing, And their eyes they have closed, Lest they should see with their eyes and hear with their ears, Lest they should understand with their hearts and turn, So that I should heal them.”

Our human need for God leads those who reject Him to worship other things instead, either in self-worship, or of created things:

• Romans 1:22-23, “Professing to be wise, they became fools, and changed the glory of the incorruptible God into an image made like corruptible man—and birds and four-footed animals and creeping things”

We can see this in our modern world, where popular idols are narcissism and animism, neither of which stand up to verification by observation and testing; they can only be sustained by choosing spiritual blindness.
