“Blessed is the man whose strength is in You,
Whose heart is set on pilgrimage”

In my mid 20’s, I had spent many years trying to secure my way in life with university study and then a career, plus house and mortgage, and trying to establish a large garden on a sloping block.

Then my wife and I bought a tent and went on a camping holiday in the Flinders Ranges with the minimum essential gear.
I recall the first night there, as I was going to sleep, I felt a great sense of release and exhilaration. Being freed from all the material concerns and burdens we put upon ourselves, to just enjoy the precious life God has given in his wonderful creation, was truly uplifting.

To “set our hearts on pilgrimage” is to face the reality that our earthly ties and responsibilities are only temporary. While they need to be attended to along the way, our main focus must remain upon God, and this earthly life is a journey of being restored to Him.

When that is our path, God will bless us with the strength and all we need for our journey.
