“The king’s heart is in the hand of the Lord, Like the rivers of water; He turns it wherever He wishes.”
Question: Applying this as “our heart” and not the king’s, how have you experienced that verse in your life?
In recent times, what I have been led to do never seems to be according to the hopes of my heart, or my personal wishes and plans. At each stage, the people God brings into my life to care for have moved my focus away from self to the needs of others. And the goals I thought I would follow, are left far behind.
My mother regularly lamented that I was spending too much time looking after her. She thought my retirement time should be for myself, but she was also aware of how much help she needed. Caring for her took the main part of my spare time during seven years of retirement.
Soon after her passing, my elder brother needed help, and that took up much of my time over two years. He is now in a nursing home.
Several months of this year have been spent in developing a website for a friend from PNG who attends my church, to promote her project to overcome rural poverty in PNG.
During the last two months I have been attending to the needs of my son, who moved from Melbourne and is staying with me for a while.
I have found that when my personal plans are disrupted, God blesses the people He brings into my life, through what He guides me to do. And in that, I have been richly blessed, with my time making a real difference in the lives of others.
Life is a bit like lane-assist on my car; I tend to wander, but there is a force drawing me back to where I should be.
Praise God!
