Question:
Is our life just a series of random events, the end result of the accidental interaction of the materials of this earth?
Or is there a meaningful purpose? How do we see the sense in the details of our lives?
Background:
The circumstances of our lives are shaped by the country, location, family, and time into which we are born. Our genetic inheritance determines our aptitude for acquiring skills, and our limitations. Local economic conditions and employment opportunities, and our relationships with other people, have a major influence on how we live our days. We may wish for better opportunities than life has given us, or question if we have made the most of what life offered.
We may evaluate each twist and turn in life as either good or bad, but is that just our personal feeling, or is there objective truth to the goodness of life’s events?
Does God influence what is happening in our lives and this world?
These thoughts were drawn from the introduction to the notes for lesson 13 of the BSF study for 2025-26. The end of that introduction reads, “Though God’s name is absent, His hand is evident.” That same comment could be applied to our world today, and the question to draw from that is, “Are you willing to recognise the possibility of God’s hand in the events of your life, or do you firmly close your eyes to that?”
